SPECIAL WARNINGS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS IF NECESSARY

During the use of a veterinary medicinal product, it is necessary to use personal protective clothing and protective equipment (masks, gloves).

It can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

It is poorly absorbed through the skin. However, in the case of the topical application of clotrimazole, it is necessary to consider the indirect effects onto the metabolism of medicines administered with it. Absorbed through the skin, it causes an increase in the activity of hepatic monooxygenase system, which may affect the rate of metabolism of other medicines. Increasing the activity of monooxygenase and C-450 cytochrome may shorten the half-life of such medicinal products as spironolactone, lidocaine, propranolol, and paracetamol.

Overdose can occur after accidental ingestion. Then, the symptoms of poisoning are observed, such as vomiting, diarrhoea or abdominal pain. This may be accompanied by cholestatic jaundice with a clear increase in alkaline phosphatase. In the case of poisoning, apply gastric lavage with water and activated carbon.

LD50 for mice and rats it is 700 to 932 mg/kg b.w., for rabbits m1000 mg/kg b.w., and for dogs over 2000 mg/kg b.w. In rats, the oral administration of clotrimazole for 13 weeks resulted in an increase in the liver weight, growth of hepatocytes, increase in alkaline phosphatase, and alanine aminotransferase. Single and repeated use of clotrimazole in rats onto the skin showed no adverse effects.

In dogs, after 26 weeks of oral administration of clotrimazole in a dosage of 150 mg/kg b.w. an increase in the weight of adrenals was found along with an increase in the activity of liver enzymes. The application of clotrimazole in dogs daily for 28 days topically caused no adverse effects.
